Paint God’s image in your soul (Diary 49)

Sister Faustina heard these words from her confessor when she told him about a special encounter with Jesus that took place in her cell in the convent house in Płock. Jesus told her then: Paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the signature: Jesus, I trust in You. I desire that this image be venerated first in your chapel, and (then) throughout the world (Diary 47). The uncertainty of Sister Faustina concerning Jesus’s words lasted only a moment, because He immediately explained to her: My image already is in your soul (Diary 49).

Looking today in the eyes of Jesus, on the 88th anniversary of the revelation of the image of the Merciful Lord, let us ask ourselves, whether we have His image in our souls – the image of God that we follow? The answer to this question can be found in the eyes of our neighbour. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to show us the people we ignore and we are not able to love on our own, whom we despise. Jesus identifies with them saying: Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me (Mt 25:40).
